From the Artist:
A fog of enchantment envelops us in times of war. It is a killing fog, in which the best and most noble stirrings of the human heart are perverted. I was twenty years old in 1966, when I recorded my first images of the fog called the Vietnam War. I was forty-three when I really began to develop them. The war I experienced was not glorious or honorable or manly or righteous. With the bullets and the bombs and the bloody carnage came blood-lust, hysteria, and insanity. Time passes; the fog lifts; war is not a team sport, press conferences are not pep rallies. Yet like moths circling an open flame we continue to be drawn to it, fascinated by it. We haven't learned anything.
