From the artist (about "Carrying My Wounded"):

Shortly after picking up wounded frm in a hot LZ [Landing Zone], the helicopter I was in was hit by heavy fire and crashed. The weight of the soldier was such that all medical supplies and my rifle were discarded in order to endure the weight of the wounded soldier. The media of watercolor fits in with the rice paddies, fear of dying and leaving wounded behind. Exhaustion is expressed on my face as I walked on.
