After returning from the war in Iraq, I became increasingly haunted with how the printed media in America is portraying the West's military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan, especially the inconsistency of what I remember vs. what was being depicted. 'Transfers of War' explores how the civilian population may remember the military actions in the current conflicts without having first hand knowledge of what war looks like. The original images are taken from major media sourcs such as The New York Times, L.A. Times and USA Today. After collecting these images daily for over a year, it occurred to me that there are only three archetypical images being presented in the printed media: 1) the Benign Intervention, 2) the Abstracted Explosion, and 3) the Sacrifice. This body of work is attempting to open a discussion about the difference between the actualities of war and how it is being perceived after this reality is filtered through the media.
