Jim Maddox

Born: San Mateo, California, 1946
Served in Vietnam, U.S. Navy
3rd Platoon Company G, 2nd Battalion
9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division
Forward Battalion Aid Station in Northern I Corps
1968

From the Artist:

I was wounded in the hip area on my third day in the field, eight days after arriving in Vietnam. Thus the references to Chi-Com grenades (by which I was wounded) in some of the drawings. I was out a month recouping, then back to the 'bush' until rotating to the BAS some months later. Most of these drawings were 'vomited up' shortly after becoming involved for the first time, with a vet rap group in 1981. I have an emotional attachment to these drawings because of their being part of my 'healing' process.
